Glendale Home Solar: Two Utilities, One City Permit
Glendale is split between two electric companies. Arizona Public Service serves much of the city, including the north side, and Salt River Project serves parts of the south and west. The city's outage guidance tells residents to call whichever company serves their area, and your bill names it.
Verix Energy is based in Gilbert and serves Glendale along with the rest of the West Valley. We sell and consult. Licensed, ROC-certified Arizona contractors design and install.
What changes between an APS and an SRP home in Glendale?
The panels can be identical. The paperwork is not.
| APS | SRP | |
|---|---|---|
| Where in Glendale | Much of the city, including the north | Parts of the south and west |
| Application | Interconnection application with a site plan and electrical diagram | Distributed energy application for solar, storage, or both |
| With a battery | Marked exporting or non-exporting, with the battery spec sheet | Must be charged for SRP's final inspection |
| Go-ahead | Permission to operate by email and a door hanger | Permission-to-operate letter after the final inspection |
SRP lists Glendale among the cities it serves all or in part. A ZIP code or subdivision name does not settle a single house.
How Glendale reviews a residential solar permit
Glendale takes solar plans electronically, through its Solar Electronic Plan Review page.
What gets uploaded
A permit application form plus construction drawings and calculations, as PDFs. The same page links the city's residential photovoltaic plan and submittal requirements.
Manufactured homes
Glendale publishes a separate document for photovoltaic systems on manufactured homes, so those roofs follow their own checklist.
Who may pull it
A contractor licensed by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, who lists the license number. A City of Glendale business license may also be required, depending on where the contractor is based. The city says construction contractors located outside Glendale do not need one.
The 180-day clock
A permit expires if work has not started within 180 days. After that, at least one inspection has to pass in every 180-day stretch, and the project has two years to finish.
Older Glendale, newer Glendale
The neighborhoods around downtown Glendale are older, and some have no association at all. Arizona's deed-restriction statute, ARS 33-439, reaches documents from April 17, 1980 on, which is why a subdivision's age can matter. North Glendale's planned communities are newer and more likely to have design review. Under ARS 33-1816, that review can shape where panels go, not whether they go up.
A Gilbert company, working the West Valley
Verix Energy has no Glendale office. We are based in Gilbert and work with Glendale homeowners by phone, by text and in person. If a company down the street matters to you, that is a fair reason to choose someone else.
Batteries and outage backup are covered on the battery page. The short version: panels without a battery switch off when the grid does.
Service areas
Based in Gilbert, working with homeowners across the East Valley, West Valley and central Phoenix.
Glendale solar, answered
What is the best solar company in Glendale?
Be skeptical of anyone who answers that before seeing your bill. In Glendale, a useful screen is whether a company asks about APS or SRP first, knows whether its contractor needs a Glendale business license, and explains the 180-day permit clock. Check the installing contractor with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. Verix Energy is a Gilbert sales company serving the West Valley, and we do not publish rankings or star counts.
Is my Glendale home on APS or SRP?
Look at the bill. APS serves much of Glendale, including the north, and SRP serves parts of the south and west.
How long is a Glendale solar permit good for?
Work has to start within 180 days of issue. Then at least one inspection must pass every 180 days, and the whole project has two years.
Is Verix Energy local to Glendale?
No. We are based in Gilbert and serve the West Valley. The local parts of the job are the licensed contractor, the Glendale permit and your utility.
Does Verix Energy install solar in Glendale?
No. We are a sales company. Licensed, ROC-certified Arizona contractors design and install, and they pull the city permit.
APS or SRP, we'll start from your Glendale bill.
