Peoria Solar: Picking the Right Permit Path

Peoria gives solar contractors more than one way through permitting: a conventional submittal, SolarAPP+, or an over-the-counter review by appointment for simpler jobs. On the utility side, most Peoria homes are on Arizona Public Service, and Salt River Project serves some addresses.

Verix Energy is based in Gilbert, across the Valley, and serves Peoria and the West Valley. We consult and sell. Licensed, ROC-certified Arizona contractors design and install.

Three ways a Peoria solar permit can go

All three run through the city's Development and Engineering Department. The licensed contractor picks the path.

Conventional submittal

The 400S Solar Permit Application, with plans drawn to Handout 235, the city's checklist for residential solar photovoltaic systems.

SolarAPP+

An automated code check for eligible systems, which Peoria added as a second option and describes as the quicker route.

Counter review

By appointment on Wednesday and Thursday mornings and Wednesday afternoons, requested online at least 24 hours ahead. It is limited to simpler systems, with a back-fed PV breaker of 40 amps or less.

Where all three end

A city inspection after the install, then permission to operate from APS or SRP before the system runs.

What Peoria needs before it issues the permit

Contractor details

The contractor's name, Arizona Registrar of Contractors license number, and City of Peoria business license number.

Inspection set-up

Inspection fees paid and an inspection contact named. Inspections can then be scheduled through the city's development services portal.

Approved plans

Work starts only after the plans are approved and the permit is in hand.

APS covers most of Peoria

The City of Peoria says its service territory has more than one energy provider and lists outage lines for both APS and SRP, and SRP counts Peoria among the cities it serves in part. Most homes are on APS. Peoria runs a long way north toward Lake Pleasant, so the bill, not the neighborhood, confirms yours.

On an APS home, the contractor files the interconnection application once the Peoria permit is cleared. APS confirms permission to operate by email and a door hanger, and the system stays off until then. If a battery is in the design, the application says whether it exports to the grid.

North Peoria HOAs and battery questions

Large master-planned communities such as Vistancia, in the north, have associations with design review. Arizona law (ARS 33-1816) lets them guide placement but not forbid solar.

If a battery design needs a main panel upgrade or a breaker de-rate, that can also change which Peoria review path fits, since counter review is for simpler jobs. Backup and sizing are explained on the battery page.

Where Verix fits, and where it doesn't

What we do

Read the APS or SRP bill, explain Peoria's permit options, and go through a proposal with you. We work from Gilbert and come out to the West Valley.

What we never do

Install. Licensed, ROC-certified Arizona contractors design the system, pull the Peoria permit, install it, and file with the utility.

Service areas

Based in Gilbert, working with homeowners across the East Valley, West Valley and central Phoenix.

Peoria permit and utility questions

What is the best solar company in Peoria?

Online rankings rarely account for Peoria's permit choices, so we would skip them. Ask instead which of the three permit paths the contractor expects to use and why, and whether a battery or panel upgrade changes that. Look the contractor up with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors and confirm a City of Peoria business license. Verix Energy is a sales company in Gilbert, and we do not rank competitors.

Is Peoria on APS or SRP?

Mostly APS, with some SRP. The city lists outage lines for both.

What is Peoria Handout 235?

The city's checklist for residential solar photovoltaic plans. It goes with the 400S application on the conventional path.

Can I walk in for a Peoria solar permit review?

No. Counter review is by appointment, requested online at least 24 hours ahead, and only for simpler systems.

Does Verix Energy install solar in Peoria?

No. Verix Energy sells and consults from Gilbert. A licensed, ROC-certified Arizona contractor designs, permits and installs.
